SaxoCell Cluster
SaxoCell – Innovation for living drugs
SaxoCell is developing new ways to produce gene and cell therapies safely, efficiently and affordably. The aim is to make so-called “living drugs” available for clinical application on a large scale – and thus strengthen healthcare and regional value creation.
Working together on this:
TU Dresden
Leipzig University
Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology
Chemnitz Hospital
Cluster4Future Innovation Competition
SaxoCell – a Cluster4Future of the BMFTR
SaxoCell is one of the winners of the Clusters4Future innovation competition organized by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). Since the start of the first three-year funding phase in 2021, SaxoCell has successfully established itself and was thus able to start the second funding period in October 2024.

Our Vision
SaxoCell – networking, visibility, investment
SaxoCell strengthens cooperation in Saxony in the field of cell and gene therapy and involves other partners throughout Germany. The aim is to close gaps in the value chain, exploit synergies and significantly increase the visibility of research and industry.
SaxoCell thus improves the chances of obtaining funding, accelerates the path to clinical application and makes the region more attractive for national and international investment – for a strong cell and gene therapy industry in Saxony and throughout Germany.
Long-term goals
Develop innovative and effective ATMPs (Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products) and expand their use across more patient groups and therapeutic areas.
Improve the safety, precision, and effectiveness of ATMPs using cutting-edge technologies in cell and gene therapy and precise production methods.
Increase manufacturing efficiency through automation, AI-driven processes, and standardized procedures for ATMP development and production.
Build an innovative research and clinical ecosystem in Saxony, including targeted training and education programs for future industry experts.
Promote technology transfer by attracting international partners, driving investments, and supporting the growth of innovative companies in Saxony.
